The Beechwood Cross
The original stood at Tonlegee townland near Beechwood House. It is now in fragments. There are a series of these in the Roscommon area. They have a particular characteristic being a slender pillar set into a mortice stone for a base. At the top was a mortice for a wooden, metal or stone cross now lost. These type of crosses are known as ‘Wauside Crosses’. The prominent name on this example is ‘Rorie Hanley’ Replica.
